On Friday 10th April I was delighted to welcome Iain Duncan Smith, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions to Amber Valley. I took him to visit Trent Barton in Heanor to show them the great work that they do employing local people. They employ over one-thousand people, including apprentices.
Amber Valley has done fantastically well in recruiting apprentices under the Conservative-led Government with nearly 4,500 people having started schemes since 2010.
More apprenticeships mean a more secure and brighter future for many of our young people. I’m glad Iain could come and see our efforts first hand. I know he was impressed.

“I was delighted to meet Jeff and hear about the history of Trent Barton and about their passion for apprenticeships and the success they have enjoyed in recruitment.
“The highlight of the visit was seeing the work of Scott and Corey who are learning some valuable skills and I hope both will have a long and healthy career in engineering.”
