Leaderflush Employee Events Update

I was very shocked to learn that Leaderflush Shapland fell into administration over the Christmas period, with the terrible result that more than 400 local people were made redundant. The company’s main base was in Langley Mill and 309 skilled workers there produced bespoke door sets and specialised in making the fire doors we see in many buildings.

This is the biggest loss of jobs in the area since I became an MP in 2010 and I know that the factory has been an important part of the community, particularly in Langley Mill.

I have therefore been working with the Job Centre, other local organisations and employers to set up advice and employment events to provide support and new jobs for former Leaderflush employees.

Advice Event – Thursday 14th January – Alfreton Job Centre:

An advice, support and information day will take place on Thursday 14th January at Alfreton Job Centre (Tannery House, 47 King Street, Alfreton, Derbyshire, DE55 7AF) to provide information on next steps for former Leaderflush employees, including advice on looking for work, making a claim for benefits, pensions, money advice and details on the support available to help you regarding your redundancy and the redundancy payment service.

There will be four separate sessions between 10am and 4pm on the day. Times will be allocated according to surnames to help the Job Centre manage the numbers on the day and to ensure that all attendees have the opportunity to access the support available. The allotted surname times are:

  1. 10am – 11.30am A – D
  2. 30am – 1pm E- J
  3. 1pm – 2.30pm K – R
  4. 30pm – 4pm S – Z.

Organisations attending include Jobcentre Plus, Citizens Advice Bureau, Derbyshire Law Centre,, Pensionwise, Unite the Union, Money Advice Service and Derbyshire Welfare Rights.

An information sheet can be found here which provides more information about the organisations offering support on the day.

Special Jobs Fair – Friday 29th January, 10am to 3pm, Alfreton Leisure Centre:

A jobs fair is also being arranged, which will take place at Alfreton Leisure Centre on Friday, January 29 from 10am-3pm.

Any people and employers who are interested in attending or who would like further information can get in touch on the usual details, by emailing nigel.mills.mp@parliament.uk or calling 01773 744341.
