Coronavirus latest update

Coronavirus Latest Update:

Many constituents are understandably contacting me regarding the current situation with Covid-19.

Yesterday, the Government announced a tightening of the guidance on Coronavirus and we are all being asked to take additional precautions immediately.

You can find a summary of the guidance for both individuals and businesses here: https://www.gov.uk/government/topical-events/coronavirus-covid-19-uk-government-response. This page is updated regularly. You can also find local guidance from Derbyshire County Council, which is regularly updated, here: https://derbyshire.gov.uk/social-health/health-and-wellbeing/health-protection/disease-control/coronavirus/coronavirus-covid-19.aspx

For anyone with symptoms: please stay in your homes for 14 days. The same now applies to those who live with you, irrespective of whether they are displaying symptoms or not.

For everyone else, there are new guidelines to slow the spread. From now on, please:

* work from home where you are can
* stop unnecessary travel
* avoid unnecessary social contact – that means avoiding pubs, clubs and mass gatherings

And for those who are over 70, pregnant or who have underlying health conditions, please stay in where possible and take additional precautions. Shortly, you will be told to self isolate for the coming weeks.

Schools are not closing at this time.

For businesses, the Government will be announcing additional help alongside the measures outlined in the Budget over the next few days, and I’ll keep you updated on this.

I know there will be lots of questions about the detail of this guidance and more information will come forward in the next few days for people, families, businesses and organisations.

This is a difficult time and I know many people are worried and anxious about what the next few weeks will bring. The best thing we can do is both take this seriously and follow what the scientists are telling us.

If you have any questions or want to discuss anything further, please get in touch on nigel.mills.mp@parliament.uk or 01773 744341.
